Today we’d like to introduce you to Domonique Grant.

Hi Domonique, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Hi, my name is Domonique and I am the creative mind behind the Tipsy Twerk LLC brand. I created Tipsy Twerk after I was unsuccessful in finding something fun to do for my 29th birthday. My only two options were a birthday dinner or going out to a club, but I was all clubbed out.

I wanted to do something fun with my friends that involved drinking, dancing, and creating unforgettable moments, so I reached out to a friend and asked her to instruct a dance class. I recorded the events of my night and shared them on social media. The feedback I received from it was amazing. It was then that I realized I had started something great. A few weeks of brainstorming later, Tipsy Twerk was born.

I cannot put into words how grateful I am for this journey. We are currently the only Minority Owned pole and dance studio in Charleston, SC. We offer pole, twerk, yoga, body language, and paint classes. Life is all about what you make of it and if I can add a little fun to someone’s life through my parties, then my purpose has been fulfilled. Tipsy Twerk has changed my life in more ways than one.

I’ve met so many women from all walks of life, but what I enjoy most about this journey is seeing the women who attend my parties leave with newfound confidence as well as new friendships. Tipsy Twerk isn’t just about partying, it’s about fellowship amongst women and the ability to feel comfortable in their own skin with no pressure.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road at all. Tipsy Twerk started in June 2018. However, I opened my brick and mortar April 2021.

I was looking for a space since 2019. I was denied much time due to the name of the business. Landlords would tell me to change it, it’s not appropriate, what would others think, etc. One even asked me what my kids think.

Also, being pregnant and running a dance studio during Covid was extremely challenging in itself.

We’ve been impressed with Tipsy Twerk, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Tipsy Twerk was originally known for getting Tipsy while Twerking during birthday parties. Since then we grew tremendously! Not only do we still get Tipsy while Twerking, but we also offer Cardio, pole, paint, twerk, body language, and bachelorette parties.

We are the only minority pole and dance studio in Charleston, SC. We’re also the only Pole and Dance Studio certified Airbnb Experience, meaning you can locate us on the Airbnb website and we can come to you to host a party!

One of my most proud moments was receiving an email from The Real Housewives of Atlanta, featured in Essence and Travel Noire, doing a Twerk class with Latrice Royale from RuPaul drag race, and being the first minority-owned pole studio in Charleston SC. Letting others know they can do anything no matter how many people tell you no!

I would love readers to know that we are more than getting Tipsy while Twerking. We help ladies from all walks. Some come to us in the middle of a divorce, some feeling unloved, others looking to feel welcomed and in the words of a recent client “This isn’t just twerk, it’s liberation.”

How do you think about happiness?
Seeing the women who attend my parties leave with newfound confidence as well as new friendships.

Happiness is finding joy in helping others! Pushing that client to take one more step, try one more time and know they always have a home at Tipsy Twerk.
